Dallas Catering Myths: Heavy Appetizers are Less Expensive than a Full Meal

Updated: 4 days ago

Providing delicious and professional catering at your event while sticking to a budget is an important part of planning. With 25 years in the hospitality industry, Ferah's team has plenty of experience guiding our clients during the menu selection process. The most common myth and misconception we see is that serving heavy appetizers will save you money on catering costs. While we understand this assumption, we'd like to explain why serving heavy appetizers is a delicious option to serve a variety of dishes at your event, however, you will typically need more quantity to provide a filling experience for your guests. Below are some tips for selecting your catering menu that will help prioritize sticking to your budget while also offering an outstanding guest experience. Ferah catering offers a variety of service styles to suit your budget and vision for your event!

Serving heavy appetizers is a delicious way to serve a variety of items and cuisines to your guests. Ferah Catering & Events has various cold and warm appetizer options in various cuisines that could take your guests around the world with a fusion of flavors. However, if you are planning to serve your guests around a mealtime it will typically cost more to provide a truly filling selection of appetizers compared to serving a buffet meal.

Don’t believe me? Let’s look at the math! Taxes and service charges are not included.

Buffet Menu: Signature Package

  • Mini Deep Fried Goat Cheese with Pomegranate Molasses

  • Caesar Salad

  • Mediterranean Salmon with Lemon Caper Sauce

  • Grilled Vegetable Medley

  • Garlic Mashed Potatoes

This menu comes from our Let’s Get Married Package priced at $28 per person featuring selections from our Italian + Mediterranean cuisine menu.

Heavy Appetizers (priced per piece):

  • Fresh Mozzarella and Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta $4

  • Maple Pecan-Crusted Chicken Skewer $5

  • Mac & Cheese Bite $4

  • Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Dates with Chipotle Aioli $4

  • Roasted Garlic Hummus Shooter with Vegetable Crudité $3

For a two hour reception, we recommend a minimum of 4-6 appetizer pieces per guest per hour to offer a filling experience for guests. That would bring you to a total of $40 per person.

The math speaks for itself! If you are looking to reduce costs and leave your guests satisfied, then buffet service is the way to go. The great news is that Ferah can accommodate all types of events and serving styles! We offer upscale serving equipment for a distinguished look at your wedding or event. Our catering concierge will work with you to craft a custom package that aligns with the priorities for your special occasion.
